Today, we begin our tour from Basantapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu city. It is a historical monuments built in medieval time. In this square we visit Hamuman Dhoka Durbar, the one and only living goddess Kumari at Her Sacred Home, Kumari Ghar (Kumari Chhen) etc. Kasthamandap temple is the oldest in the area believed to have been built of a single in 12th c. The name of the city Kathmandu itself is derived from this temple. So, it is easy to figure out its importance in Nepalese culture and History. Now hop back into your car to head to Pashupatinath temple. It is the most sacred Hindu temple in Nepal which is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. Pashupatinath draws thousands of Pilgrimage every year and devotees from Nepal and India. Here, you observe the most unique Hindu cremation ritual in the holy bank of Bagmati River. Learn the Hindu way of belief. The next destination awaits you. This is Boudhanath Stupa, the world’s largest Stupa. The studa is biggest and oldest of its type. Here, the irresistible Buddhist ambience will sweep you to the world of spiritualism. It is a great pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists. So, witness the Tibetan rituals going on every day. In the evening, we drive to Bhaktapur city. After hotel check in, you are advised to stroll around the square nearby your hotel. There you will see people in evening rituals of singing hymn. The city is also known by Bhadgaun. This is the city of devotees. Find the local women in red attire going to different religious shrine with the offering on special plate. Golden gate, 55 window palace, Art Gallery, 5 storied temples, Dattatraya square are the most attractive here. The exquisite wood carvings, ancient Newari architectures and pagoda styled Hindu temples are on display here. They are the mementos of mediaeval beginning from 12th to 18th c. Put your steps gently along the brick- paved small alleys so that you don’t miss many interesting activities of local farmers. The streets lead to different squares. This tour will cover four major squares. In the evening we drive to Nagarkot Hill station. It is an hour’s pleasant drive. As you follow the road that snakes uphill, you will realize the serenity of environment that this place fosters. Overnight in Nagarkot Hotel.
After breakfast, buckle up to visit Patan. This is another city in Kathmandu valley. This city is also known by “Lalitpur which means “the city of art”. The city is equally famous for Budhism. Many of hidden squares in this city are embellished with Buddhist Stupas and Monastery built in 12th c where people practice Buddhism. In the main Durbar Square (Palace) area, there are Hindu temples with fine wood carvings. Krishna Mandir, Bhimsen temple, Jagat Narayan Temple, Digu Taleju, Taleju, Octagonal Krishna Temple and the Royal Palace are the attraction of this square dating back from 15th c. The next destination is Swayambhunath also popularly known as “The Monkey Temple”. Around 5 km west from Durbar sqare is this oldest Buddisht stupa, accompanied by a Hindu shrine, situated on a hillock which offers a breath taking view of the city.
