Tamang Heritage Trek is a cultural trek through Tamang villages in Langtang with beautiful panoramas of Ganesh and Langtang Range. The verdant midland villages of Nepal, beautiful mountains and the culture of the people who live here are on show in Tamang Heritage Trek. The trail passes through the traditional Tamang village where their culture (here, they are from Tibetan origin which is totally different to Tamang from any where else in Nepal) have been remained unchanged since the beginning of the human settlement. Warm and welcoming hosted locals, their elaborate costumes, rich architecture of their mountain houses, the ancient monasteries and places of prayer makes you feel really different during this trek. In addition, this does not only provide the cultural experience but also offers beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, flat meadows, and rhododendron forests.
Tamang Heritage Trek starts from Gatlang and visits Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim. The trail may end back at Syabrubesi or follow Langtang trek from Briddim village via Khamjim. One can visit a Tamang monastery and the beautiful Parvati Kunda (Kunda means a holy lake) at Gatlang. Goljung has an ancient monastery, the oldest one in Tamang Heritage Trek. From the viewpoint at Bahundanda, one can see a panorama of Langtang (7227 meters), Ganesh Himal (7422 meters) and Sanjen Himal Ranges. Bathing in the hot, healing waters of the natural spring at Tatopani en route from Gatlang to Chilime is another highlight of Tamang Heritage Trek.
Today is your arrival day. We welcome you upon your arrival at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. Transfer to Hotel in Kathmandu. Prior to the activities, arrange a meeting with your guide for briefing about the necessary formalities on your tour and trek program. Depending upon your arrival time you may spend free time visiting nearby historic/Countryside areas.

Our Trek Leader/Guide meets you in the afternoon for the trek briefing and for the final trek preparation. Syabrubesi, the trek commencement point of the Langtang Valley Trek, in the Langtang region of Nepal. After an early succulent breakfast at the hotel, you will be accompanied by your guide on a long drive, north of Kathmandu towards Syabrubesi. Soon after surpassing the crowded and noisy streets of Kathmandu, you will notice the car wobbling up and down the dusty cum bumpy roads, tucked at the base of the north western hills. We drive alongside the terraced farms and orthodox villages and arrive at Trisuli Bazaar, a large prosperous looking marketplace, where we halt for lunch. Our post lunch drive continues meticulously along the narrow and curvy dirt road, passing by few landslide prone areas. We drive past Dhunche, the headquarter of Rasuwa district, from where the road winds down to the nice little town of Syabrubesi. Mostly dwelt by the people of the “Tamang” community, the town of Syabrubesi boasts an array of hotels, shops and internet facilities. There is also a hot spring nearby. Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2238m / 5hrs)Gatlang, a small village, set high on the hillside among terraced fields, characterized by unique stone houses in the Langtang region of Nepal. To kick off the trek, we begin with an ascent for about 3 hours, towards an amazing view point which offers mindboggling mountainous vistas of Ganesh Himal, Gosaikunda Range and Langtang Lirung. After this quick scenic indulgence at the view point, we descend to the village of Goljung and stop for lunch. As the trek resumes, we walk past many villages, Buddhist chortens & mani-walls, until we arrive at Gatlang, a small village, set high on the hillside among terraced fields, characterized by unique stone houses. Tatopani, the natural geo-thermal hot spring in the Langtang region of Nepal regarded as one of the refreshment spots for the tired trekkers. From Gatlang, our trail drops down, following the Bhote Koshi River to Thangbuchet. We walk past the Hydropower Dam in Chilime, from where the trail ascends and crosses a small suspension bridge, before we arrive at Tatopani. Tatopani refers to “Hot water “in Nepali. The reason behind why this place is assigned the nomenclature as such is the presence of geo-thermal heated spring water herein. Let’s take a dip in this purported therapeutic water and flex our tired muscles. Overnight at teahouse in Tatopani; breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Trek from Tatopani to Thuman (2338m/ 6 -7 hrs) via Nagthali Hill Thuman, the 'Tamang' dominated settlement with ancient monasteries and atristic wood-carved houses in the Langtang region of Nepal.(3165m) Initially, the path goes slightly upward to the settlement of Brimdang. The gradient then becomes steeper for couple of hours until we arrive at the Nagthali Hill, also known as Nagthali Danda, which happens to be an exclusive vantage point to relish superb views of Langtang Lirung, Kerung and Ganesh Himal Range. Capturing the great Himalayan vistas, we walk down the hill towards the Tibetan village of “Thuman”. This “Tamang” dominated settlement is dotted with many ancient monasteries and artistic looking wood- carved houses. If your luck is on, you could actually spot on some species of Langur Monkeys here. Overnight at teahouse in Thuman; breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Trek from Thuman to Brindim (2229/ 6-7 hrs) via Timure (1762m) with a short excursion to the historical site of Rasuwagadi Timure, a settlement in Langtang Region, Nepal. The day offers a mix of regular trek as well as an exciting excursion. We start off a bit early, with an easy descent to the village of Timure. Following the ancient trade route to Tibet, we take short hike to the historical premises of Rasuwagadi. The fort here emanates the history of the centuries old, Nepal –Tibet relations. There is also a suspension bridge here, which links Nepal and Tibet. After this historical exploration, we hike back to Timure and stop for lunch. The post lunch trek then resumes, walking through the rhododendron clusters and meadows, until we arrive at the village of Brindim, beautifully poised under the canopy of Langtang Himal. Trek from Brindim to Syabrubesi (1460m/ 3-4 hrs)Syabrubesi, the trek commencement point of the Langtang Valley Trek, in the Langtang region of Nepal. On this last day of our trek, all we have to do is a gentle downhill walk following the Bhotekoshi River all the way, until we arrive at the very familiar little town of Syabrubesi. If time permits, we can go for about 20 minutes hike to the hot spring and ease of our aching muscles. Overnight at teahouse in Syabrubesi; breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Thamel, a popular spot for souvenir shopping in Kathmandu, Nepal. We drive back to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi on a private jeep. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. The remaining time is on your own. You would probably want to head on to Thamel for some souvenir shopping. After all, your friends and relatives expect something more than just your interesting trip anecdotes, when you get back home. In the evening, Nepal Trek Ways will host a farewell dinner party in full fledged Nepali style.
